This may be a very inspirational and beautiful story but it really doesn't keep your interest. A a bird is a bird is a bird.

This essay is a truly moving excruciating honest reflection and certainly deserving the accolades given it.
There is a raw power to the narrative that touches the reader. The issues faced by a young girl who is at once precocious and innocent give it that quality. She is precocious in her ability to see and feel aspects of the natural world more poignantly than most adults. She is attentive to and has an understanding of various birds, animals, trees etc as phenomena beyond their physical existence. As she sees through and around them a deeper awareness becomes apparent. For a non-fiction piece to use this figurative language and imagery as effectively is noteworthy.
As the title tells us, birds do have eyes, even dead ones. And they can "see" mysteriously as the writer could of divorce playing out in her family at
a very young age.
I plan on reading it again. It is
extraordinarily well done.

An experience summed up as dead birds? Trite and exasperatingly boring. If this is good writing, shoot me!
