"Super-engagingly"-written.
Normally, anything to do with S/M,
even peripherally, makes me feel kind
of sick...but I'll read anything that draws me in - and, in a way, if it's a topic that I find unpalatable, all the more reason for reading it (because of what it says about the talent and skill of the author)...I know this is all rather Zen koan...all this said: I enjoyed reading this so much, I sent it to a friend with her own ghosts.
To the author, Melissa Febos: Have you ever read Evelun Lau's work? If not, do yourself that favor. She's based out of Vancouver, B.C., Canada and has won numerous awards. She writes about her S/M prostitution work...her poetry book "In The House of Slaves" had (that) as a major theme. She is a stone-cold GREAT poet! (and how can I read your work here without automatically thinking of Evelyn Lau's?)

Thanks for a great read,
SheLa

I love the full disclosure of the "dark" side activities-- If women speak more openly about sex and sensuality, maybe we wouldn't feel like such isolated freaks. I love the story and the willingness to admit to drug use and change, sobriety and strength--even self-doubt. Great story.
