I have a pair of pretty socks,
One’s pink and one is blue.
My mother says that they don’t match
But I say that they do.
They match the colors in my shorts,
The plaid ones that I like.
They also match the bright blue spots
That dot my hot pink bike.
The stripes on my pajama pants,
The rug that’s on my floor,
Besides all that they also match
The pair that’s in my drawer.
Pauline Clarke is a 2005 graduate of the Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults. Her writings have been published in Countryside Magazine, Scholastic’s Instructor Magazine, and the Berkshire Record, a weekly newspaper in western Massachusetts. She has also self-published a collection of her newspaper columns in a book called Writing Down the Words. Pauline is an assistant instructor at the second grade level and loves introducing youngsters to the delights of creative writing and poetry composition. She lives at the end of a secret path in the Berkshire hills.
